Data on the number of people selling their homes to pay for dementia care is not collected centrally.

Deferred Payment Agreements (DPAs) are available to allow eligible individuals to access the equity in their home to pay for their care, without having to sell it. This provides individuals and their families time to make important decisions about their care and finances.

DPAs were introduced through the Care Act 2014 as part of the wider reforms of social care provided for in that Act.

The Government is committed to ensuring that people should not be forced to sell their home to pay for their care.
