No specific assessment has been made of the numbers and roles of teachers of the deaf in the Edgbaston constituency, the West Midlands or England. It is for local authorities to determine how they allocate their resources to meet the needs of their residents most effectively, including through the provision of specialist services for the children and young people with a hearing impairment.

In addition, the Department for Education is funding the whole school special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) consortium to deliver a two-year programme of work to build the skills of teachers and to equip schools to identify and meet their training needs in relation to SEND, including for children and young people with hearing impairment.
