Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment has he made of the effect of leaving the EU on food standards in the UK.
The Government, including the Food Standards Agency, is committed to maintaining the United Kingdom’s high standard of food safety and ensuring we take a risk-based, proportionate approach that prioritises public health and the interests of consumers. We are investigating a range of solutions to ensure that from day one, food is as safe as it is now. Maintaining a robust and effective regulatory regime for ensuring the safety of food remains a high priority as the UK prepares to leave the European Union.
