We are carrying out extensive engagement with stakeholders as part of the Review of Civil Legal Aid. As part of our evidence gathering, we will be undertaking a Call for Evidence, and interested parties, including legal professionals, will be invited to submit evidence at this stage. Details on timings will be made available in due course.

The Legal Aid Agency’s published statistics contain figures setting out total volumes of applications for civil legal aid received, and the volumes of applications granted for each year since 2006, see table 6.1 for data on civil legal aid application volumes and grants and link to which can be found here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1146954/legal-aid-statistics-tables-oct-dec-2022.ods.

We do not hold information on the cost to civil legal aid firms of applications for legal aid that were refused by the Legal Aid Agency.
