Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, pursuant to his Answer of 24 July 2018 to Question 166138 on NHS: Data Protection, if he will make an assessment of the financial effect on the NHS of the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation.

There are no current plans to undertake an assessment of the financial effect implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) may have on the National Health Service.

However, the impact of the GDPR’s potential impact on general practitioner practices has been raised as part of the General Medical Services contract negotiations which are currently on-going. Negotiations are confidential and neither we, nor the General Practitioner Committee, comment on the content of negotiations as it may prejudice the outcome.
