The Department for Transport recognises that pavement parking can cause serious problems for pedestrians, and particularly for people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments. Local authorities already have powers to prohibit pavement parking using Traffic Regulation Orders. The Department is currently gathering evidence to understand whether this system is working effectively.
