Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what the cost to the NHS has been of people being sectioned in each of the last eight years.

NHS England reports on mental health expenditure overall, in the Five Year Forward View Mental Health Dashboard, which is available at the following link:

However, expenditure on detentions made under the Mental Health Act 1983 is not identified separately.
