The Government is committed to making sure that our electoral system is fit for the future. Voter ID is an important step towards ensuring the British public has greater confidence in that system and our democracy.

The independent Electoral Commission is undertaking a detailed statutory evaluation of the 2018 voter ID pilots. The Government will carefully consider the Commission’s report when it is published, alongside any other relevant data before confirming and costing any next steps.
