My Rt Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade has spoken on multiple occasions to the United States Trade Representative and the Secretary of Commerce about the US decision to impose tariffs. Furthermore, the Prime Minister raised the issue at the recent G7 summit, setting out our view that the US action is ‘unjustified and deeply disappointing.’

We will continue to work closely with the US and our EU partners to secure a permanent EU exemption to these tariffs. We also continue to work with the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on supporting industry through the product exemptions process which is being run by the US Department of Commerce.
