The compilation and maintenance of rural settlement lists, as required by sections 42A and 42B of the Local Government Finance Act 1998, are the responsibility of local authorities. Authorities submit data on the amount of rural rate relief awarded to eligible properties within such settlements through the annual National Non-domestic Rates statistical returns.
