The Government is committed to maintaining the Common Travel Area and the associated rights of Irish citizens living in the UK. The December Joint Report includes recognition from the EU that the Common Travel Area arrangements between the UK and Ireland are protected after the UK has left the EU. The Government is determined to ensure that this, like all the commitments made in the Joint Report, is turned into legally-binding text in the Withdrawal Agreement. The Government has also announced its intention to bring forward a new bill – a Withdrawal Agreement and Implementation Bill – to give effect to the Withdrawal Agreement between the UK and the EU in domestic law.
