A count of finished admission episodes (FAEs) with a primary diagnosis of a fracture of the neck of the femur caused by a fall is shown in the table below. This is for patients aged 65 and over from the financial years 2009/10 through to 2016/17. This is a count of admissions, not patients, as the same patient may have been admitted on more than one occasion within the time period:

Year

FAE

2009/10

36,006

2010/11

35,734

2011/12

2012/13

2013/14

2014/15

2015/16

2016/17
