Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what advice his Department gives to pregnant women on folic acid.

To prevent pregnancies affected by neural tube defects, the Department supports the recommendation of NHS Choices which advises women to take 400 micrograms of folic acid every day prior to conception and in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
