NHS England is currently seeking to continue discussions with Vertex to agree a deal that would make Orkambi available to National Health Service patients. The Department recognises the importance of patients with cystic fibrosis being able to benefit from clinically and cost effective treatments, and is keen for dialogue between Vertex and NHS England to continue. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Lord O’Shaughnessy) and I have written to Vertex, the manufacturer of Orkambi, to encourage expedition of the negotiations with NHS England and to set out the need to resolve this matter urgently. A copy of the letter is attached.
