Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps his Department is taking to support community transport initiatives in the North East of England.

The Department has funded community transport operators in the North East of England during the 2016/17 financial year through the Department’s Bus Service Operator’s Grant (BSOG). BSOG payments made to community transport operators in (a) Newcastle were over £6,000, (b) the North East of England were over £82,000 and (c) England were approximately £3.5 million.

Additionally, two of the winners of the second round of the Community Minibus Fund (CMF) were based in the North East of England and received vehicles last financial year from the Department for the benefit of their passengers.
