We are committed to ensuring the public receive the best possible contraceptive services. The Women's Health Strategy includes examples of local areas providing contraception in maternity settings. It encourages local commissioners and providers to consider implementing these services to enable women to plan any subsequent pregnancies and reduce short inter-pregnancy intervals which are associated with poorer pregnancy outcomes. NHS England's general practitioner contract agreement 2020/21 to 2023/24 states that a universal six to eight week post-natal check for new mothers should include a focus on family planning and contraception issues.
