All Authorised Firearms Officers must undertake the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum – a programme of nationally accredited training for armed officers.

The length of courses varies according to the duties likely to be undertaken. Including in respect to Operation Temperer, deployment decisions and the length of associated armed officer training are operational matters for the police.
