Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether her Department has made an assessment of the potential merits of opening a Passport Office in Dublin better to facilitate responses to the high level of demand for British Passports from people who live in the Irish Republic.
Overseas applications were previously processed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from ‘offshore’ locations, including an office in Dublin. Application processing was repatriated to the UK in 2014, which included the closure of the Dublin office, and resulted in substantial savings.
The department has not re-considered this decision since 2014.
