HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) does not hold information on the number of customs agents in the UK. HMRC does not authorize customs agents and the role is not defined in Customs legislation. Individuals and companies may appoint third parties or intermediaries to act on their behalf to perform a range of services in the international supply chain including freight forwarders and/or acting as a customs representative and the term can be used to cover each of these services.
