Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the potential implications for the stability of the region, including the potential for destabilisation and violence, of the US Government recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
As the Prime Minister said in her statement of 6 December, we disagree with the US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem and recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital before a final status agreement. We believe it is unhelpful in terms of prospects for peace in the region. We call on all parties to work together to maintain calm.
