Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if she will publish a breakdown by percentage of the ethnicity of all mental health professionals employed by the NHS.
NHS Digital collects Hospital and Community Health Services (HCHS) workforce statistics. These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups, but not staff working in primary care or in general practitioner surgeries, local authorities or other providers. Data on the National Health Service workforce is collected from the Electronic Staff Record, the human resources and payroll system for the NHS.
The following table shows the ethnicity of all HCHS mental health staff working in the NHS, headcount, by percentage as of September 2021.
Ethnicity | Percentage |
White | 73.5% |
Black or black British | 11.5% |
Asian or Asian British | 7.0% |
Not stated | 2.5% |
Mixed | 2.5% |
Any other ethnic group | 1.5% |
Unknown | 1.0% |
Chinese | 0.4% |
Discontinued codes | 0.0% |
