Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the ability to afford sanitary products of people who are seeking asylum pending the outcome of their application; and if she will make a statement.
Asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute are provided with accommodation and a cash allowance to cover their essential living needs.
The level of the allowance is reviewed each year and the review takes account of the cost of sanitary products.
A report of the most recent review can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/report-on-review-of-cash-allowance-paid-to-asylum-seekers
The assessment of the cost of sanitary products can be found at Annex A to the report.
