The Afghanistan (Sanctions) (EU Exit) (Amendment) Regulations 2022 were laid on 27 January and came into force on 28 January 2022. The Regulations implement the UK’s international obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 2615. The resolution provides for a humanitarian exception to the sanctions regime established by resolution 1988 (2011) to support the provision of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. HM Treasury, through its Office for Financial Sanctions Implementation, are working to support its effective implementation with supporting guidance and through continued engagement with the financial and humanitarian sectors.
