Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the potential merits for people undergoing fertility treatment routinely to be offered treatment to preserve their fertility.
We expect integrated care boards to commission fertility services according to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence’s (NICE) guidelines, ensuring equal access to fertility treatment in England. NICE’s fertility guidelines currently recommend that the National Health Service provides fertility preservation for patients being treated for cancer who wish to preserve their fertility. NICE is currently reviewing these guidelines and we expect that this review will be published in 2024.
