Based on United States of America research on prevalence, the National Organisation on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome estimates 6,000 – 7,000 children may be born each year with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder in the United Kingdom (about 1% of all births). There remain considerable uncertainties on prevalence in the UK and there is currently no available data for Northern Ireland.
