Complaints handling is an important part of the Government’s programme of work. Changes to the way complaints data are collected has led to increasing return rates from all primary care practices but in particular general practice and dental care providers which, as anticipated, has contributed to the increase in the number of complaints recorded.

The Department has established the Complaints Improvement Partnership with key stakeholders to improve complaints handling and the experience of people making a complaint about NHS services. It also examines how all National Health Service organisations (including general practitioners and dentists) respond to feedback and complaints. Including most importantly, learning from them to improve services to the public.
