Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the Answer of 17 October 2022 to Question 61824 on Ministry of Defence: Electronic Purchasing Card Solution, whether (a) the £14,334 spent on hotel accommodation for personnel providing an escort role in UK movements and (b) the £691 spent hosting foreign dignitaries between 26 and 29 April 2022 included any expenditure on alcoholic beverages.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) can provide a response against the two electronic purchasing card (ePC) transactions highlighted within the right hon. Member's question:

  • The £14,334 spent on hotel accommodation for personnel providing an escort role in UK movements covered accommodation with breakfast only.
  • The £691 spent hosting foreign dignitaries between 26 and 29 April 2022 included a meal for nine people including service and wine. The spend was endorsed by Army Top Level Budget and MOD policy.
