A table showing the number of people subject to restraint in inpatient mental health or learning disability and autism services from 2016/17 to 2020/21 is attached. This information is not held prior to 2016.

The use of restraint should only ever be used as a last resort. The Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Act 2018, its accompanying statutory guidance and response to the public consultation for this guidance was published on 7 December 2021.
