The speed limit on UK motorways has been set at 70 miles per hour since 1965. Since then, cars have become both far faster and far safer meaning that the speed limit on motorways (which are designed to provide a safe place to travel fast) can be raised. Several countries, such as Bulgaria, Germany and the UAE have motorway speed limits this high or higher. Raising the speed limit on motorways will bring down travel times between cities, and will decrease the number of people speeding.
